When Loneliness Is Replaced with Longing

Sometimes in life, loneliness is replaced with longing very quickly. One hundred years of solitude turns into timeless eternity of longing. I am not sugarcoating the emotion of longing. It could be just as painful as loneliness. Especially if the longing comes with no promise of being fulfilled. If you think about it, loneliness is the result of the longing left unattended.

Until you learn to desire and long for the coming of Jesus, though, you haven’t had the taste of real longing yet. Until you reach the place of desolation and hopelessness where only Jesus is your way out, you don’t know the real picture of loneliness.

Once the Spirit of Jesus has touched you, in the deep, deep place that no one has ever touched, and you felt him in the very secret place where no one will ever be able to find, then rejoice. Your future is secure with Jesus. You lack nothing. Loneliness will not touch you, and you will always have deep longing for Jesus, and His divine providence. Life in exile here on earth will suddenly be transformed into a life lived in the joy of God. You will find His people, and join the family of God here on earth as in heaven. You will have little sips of heaven every day and it will taste as sweet as honey.

But sadness will be all around you. Pain and suffering will appear to be greater than they were before God has unveiled your blind eyes. There may come many days you wish that you could go back to the days of ignorance. Every time you recognize a soul in need and you turn your wide open eyes away from him, your soul will suffer in great guilt.

And so, what do we do? The answer is simple. Jesus has already given us two simple ways of life.

1, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

You must remember these two things in life, and live by the commandment of Love on which “All the Law and the Prophets hang.”(Matthew 22:36-40)

While you’re waiting for the coming of Jesus, and living this life on earth filled with the sweet longing of complete union with God, all you ever need to do is simply to love. And that is the greatest mission given to us all human race. Longing is loving in part, and waiting in Faith is life-giving. When God fills the heart with the longing of Jesus, loneliness vanishes, and you become one giant power house of Love. That is a pure gift only God can give.
