Slowing Down

Relaxing morning here, meditating and reading. It’s good to sit down by the sunny balcony while filling my mind with serenity.

“Tsunamis are frightening not just because of the water, but also because of the objects hurled at us by the water. Tornadoes are terrifying not just because of the wind, but also because of the objects uprooted and thrown by the wind. We feel unhappy not just because something bad has happened, but also because of the swirling thoughts about what happened.” -Haemin Sunim, The things You Can See Only When You Slow Down

I was happy to hear about the release of this book in English. Written by a humble Korean monk-though there is nothing humble about his academic background-, this book is filled with simplicity but such depth that you can meditate on a single sentence from this book throughout your whole day. Along with my beloved daily reading of Word Among Us, this book has been a healing source of joy.

May you be blessed with the joy of slowing down, even if just for a moment.
